Some notes and some pondering from reading the initial pages of “The Writings of William Carey: Journalism as Mission in the Modern Age” which, in part, speaks to the publishing arm of Carey’s mission in India, the Serampore Mission.
It’s important to recognize that many would not have become readers of the Serampore Mission’s publications if they had not been taught to read through its network of native schools. Not only did Serampore’s journalistic mission include development of written materials, but it also included production of a readership.
Thinking Out Loud: In today’s world, communication is often accomplished through digital means (video, audio, websites, social channels, etc.). As the worldwide church becomes more reliant on such methods of communication, does it behoove us to accompany this activity with training in the use of digital channels to those who would eventually become the recipients of such digital communication?
