The Garifuna people of Central America number approximately 75,000 and live in the countries of Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.1 They are known for their music and dance — in 2001, their music, dance, and language were proclaimed as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.2
Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. The republic of Honduras is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea. Honduras spans about 112,492 km (43,433 sq mi) and has a population exceeding 9 million.
